What the ICAWD does

The ICAWD brings industry stakeholders together to:

  1. Develop and execute initiatives that ensure good careers, create quality pathways, and strengthen professional capabilities

  2. Enhance perceptions of the accountancy profession through outreach efforts

  3. Build a sustainable talent pipeline for the profession

AWRC recommendations

The ICAWD implements recommendations from the Accountancy Workforce Review Committee (AWRC), which concluded its work in May 2024.

Its recommendations span across three key pillars:

  1. Ensure good careers: Make the profession more attractive to potential talent.

  2. Create quality pathways: Make accountancy careers more accessible to persons from different backgrounds.

  3. Strengthen professional capabilities: Develop future-ready accountants who can adapt to changes and seize opportunities.

Examples of initiatives

To implement the recommendations, industry stakeholders have launched various initiatives, such as:

  • Redesigning reward structures and adjusting starting salaries

  • Making the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ) more accessible through streamlined requirements and exemptions

  • Expanding work-study opportunities and introducing accountancy minors and double degrees

  • Enhancing recognition of the Chartered Accountant (Singapore) designation

  • Corporate entities, such as in-house accounting and finance functions, and company directorship associations
