The Institute of Valuers and Appraisers Singapore (IVAS) has issued GN-003: Valuation of Intangible Assets: Key Focus Areas and Guidance [PDF, 1008 KB].
As intangible assets become an increasingly important driver of business value, valuation professionals are required to exercise greater professional judgement in assessing assets such as intellectual property, software, brands, customer relationships and proprietary technologies across a wide range of valuation engagements.
The Guidance Note supplements the International Valuation Standards (IVS) by providing greater consistency, transparency, and professional judgement in practice. These include understanding the characteristics and risk profile of intangible assets, determining whether the intangible assets should be valued on a standalone basis or together with other assets, determining hypothetical royalty rates and economic lives, performing sensitivity and corroborative analyses, and enhancing valuation report disclosures. Stakeholder consultation was conducted across Canada, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States, in developing the Guidance Note.
