NTUC’s e2i, the Singapore Accountancy Commission, and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants launch the new Accountancy careers Hub to support jobseekers and in-employment professionals in the accountancy sector

The Accountancy careers Hub is part of the efforts to operationalise the Jobs Transformation Maps launched in January for the Finance and Accounting (F&A) functions and Accounting Practices, to bring better jobs and skills upgrading opportunities to the accountancy workforce

Singapore, 29 March 2022 - In January, the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), supported by Workforce Singapore (WSG) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), launched the Jobs Transformation Maps (JTMs) for In-house Finance & Accounting (F&A) functions and Accounting Practices, to develop pathways for employers to transform jobs and for workers to acquire requisite skills as existing job roles evolve and new job roles emerge.

Continued growth in the accountancy sector

2.    In Singapore, the accountancy sector is forecasted to grow with 6,000 to 7,000 jobs added to the accountancy sector by 2025, from a workforce of about 100,000 now. 

3.    Job growth in the sector is also due to the rise of new job roles catering to an increasingly digitalised and data-driven business environment, such as the IT Auditor and Ethical Hacker. The rising pressure placed on companies by investors and consumers to report on their sustainability efforts have also led to a need for workers that have in-depth knowledge of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks, such as the ESG Specialist.

Launch of the Accountancy careers Hub 

4.    To meet the demand for quality manpower in a sustainable manner and to prepare workers for emerging new technologies and job roles, the Labour Movement has come alongside our workers to strengthen the Singaporean core and to translate the JTMs into tangible jobs and skills opportunities they can tap on to remain relevant in today’s economy. 

5.    NTUC’s e2i, the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) have come together to set up the Accountancy careers Hub (ACH), which was launched by Mr Patrick Tay, Assistant Secretary General, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). 

6.    With the launch of ACH, F&A professionals, employees within the Accountancy sector and those aspiring to join the sector will have a convenient, one-stop portal to access information on a myriad of topics essential to their careers, including: 

• Skills Upgrading – Over 300 specially curated courses from various training providers [see Annex A for current list of training providers] will be available on the ACH to help workers upskill in areas outlined in the Jobs Transformation Maps. These courses cover various skillsets, such as technical/functional skills, technology skills and soft skills, especially skills that are required in emerging job roles [see Annex B for list of technical, technology, and soft skills]. Union members can also look forward to courses supported under the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP), a training benefit to help union members defray the cost of their training. 

• Job Opportunities – Jobseekers can look forward to a new job portal specially dedicated to finance and accounting functions, as well as career opportunities within the Accountancy sector. Currently, there are over 200 jobs and 106 employers on board, with more to be added. There will also be Career Conversion Programmes for those who wish to move into the accountancy sector or move across job roles within the sector, with roles such as Cloud Accounts Executive and Business Development Executive / Manager available. 

• Career Coaching – Jobseekers or workers who need career advice and resources on how to navigate through the upcoming changes within the Accountancy sector or wish to transit into the sector or a new role, can request to meet an e2i career coach. The career coach will partner with you to provide personalised and actionable advice to help you achieve your career goals. 

7.    Ms Caryn Lim, CEO, e2i, said, “Given Singapore’s role as a key global financial hub, e2i has been cognizant of the steady growing demand for skilled professionals within the Accountancy sector. For the past 2 years, e2i assisted close to 1,500 individuals seeking career opportunities and/or upskilling efforts within the Accountancy sector, of which 785 were placed into F&A roles as well as jobs within the industry. Together with SAC and ISCA, e2i will synergise our efforts and bring greater and more consolidated support to finance and accounting professionals as well as workers within the Accountancy sector through the Accountancy careers Hub. We will expand our support to companies to assist them in their manpower and transformation needs."

Professionals who commit to continuous learning will benefit by remaining relevant in the long run. The Accountancy careers Hub will be the main touchpoint providing employment and employability support for the accountancy sector. It will provide jobseekers looking to enter the industry and accountancy professionals exploring new career tracks within the sector with the relevant help they need.”
